The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament has been held annually for the past 20 years in Stamford Connecticut, and is organized and run by New York Times Crossword Puzzle Editor Will Shortz. Scores are based on accuracy and speed. For more information, see the official 1998 Tournament page.

The champion got 100% words correct per puzzle, averaging under 7 minutes per puzzle. (Even with a 45 minute time limit!)
